The Gathering en Autumn op tour door twaalf Europese landen!
In navolging van Lacuna Coil (IT), My Dying Bride (UK) en Green Lizard (NL) zal the
Gathering deze winter de Nederlandse band Autumn meenemen als support act tijdens
hun
20th Anniversary Tour. Naast het 20 jarig bestaan zal de tour in het teken staan van
hun laatste album The West Pole. Nadat The Gathering dit najaar een aantal shows in
Nederland speelt, vertrekken de bands voor een tour van 21 shows door 12 verschillende
landen, waaronder onder andere Duitsland, Frankrijk, Spanje, Itali๋, Tsjechi๋, Polen,
Kroati๋ en Zwitserland.
Autumn
Voor deze tour koos The Gathering bewust voor de Nederlandse band Autumn als support act.
Autumn is een band die veel overeenkomsten met ons vertoond. Ook zij zijn niet bang om
nieuwe paden te verkennen en een cross-over te maken. Dit experimentele karakter past goed
bij The Gathering en ik denk dat wij samen een toffe avond kunnen neerzetten.

Het Friese Autumn bracht begin dit jaar haar vierde album Altitude en speelde eerder
voornamelijk in Nederland, Belgie en Duitsland.
Concerten
The Gathering viert haar twintig jarig bestaan ook met een clubtour die afgelopen weekend van
start ging en in maart 2010 zal worden afgemaakt. Tijdens de Nederlandse shows zal de support
verzorgd worden door onder andere Tom Musca uit Den Bosch en de Utrechtse band Silence is
Sexy. In de lente vertrekt de band voor de vijfde keer richting Zuid-Amerika voor een aantal
concerten. Ex-bandlid Hugo Prinsen Geerligs zal tijdens de Europese tour een aantal keer
terugkeren op het podium om bassiste Marjolein Kooijman te vervangen.

Highly acclaimed Dutch band The Gathering celebrates 20 years of music!
In autumn 1989 two brothers, Hans and Ren้ Rutten together with friend Bart Smits, decided to start The Gathering. They had no plan or a clear strategy, only the urge and enthusiasm to write and play music. Spring 2009 the band released their ninth studio album "the West Pole" with newfound singer Silje Wergeland. Today the band looks back on twenty years of music: from doom metal to atmospheric alternative rock with great international success as pioneers of alternative music and a solid fan base.
A unique sound
Every Sunday morning the three founders biked from their hometown Oss to their rehearsal space on a farm in a little village called Heesch. There they wrote their first songs, often with a huge hangover from the night before. Soon they were accompanied by Hugo Prinsen Geerligs, Jelmer Wiersma and Frank Boeijen. The unique combination of heavy guitars, keyboards and death grunts drew a lot of attention. As the band toured the country, they collected more and more fans. In 1992, The Gathering released their debut album "Always".
International success
Three years later, The Gathering achieved an international break through with their third album "Mandylion". After the departure of Smits and his successor Niels Duffhues, the band chose a complete different path with the compelling vocals of singer Anneke van Giersbergen. "Mandylion" became a bench mark in the heavy rock scene, and single "Strange Machines" reached the Dutch single charts. Still, the album is highly renowned everywhere. Dutch music magazine Oor recognized it as one of the fifty best Dutch albums of all times.
Twenty years
Many adventures took place during the twenty years: hundreds of gigs around the whole world, nine studio albums, three live albums, lots of singles and E.Ps, the founding of their own record label and two DVD's amongst them A Sound Relief that was awarded with the famous Edison Award. The Gathering is proud of a huge international fan base they have gathered over the years. Of course there were some turbulent times with departure of band members and difficulties in the business, but The Gathering always managed to come back standing strong amongst the pioneers of alternative rock music with an ever changing but very authentic Gathering-sound and strong powerful live shows.
Up coming tour
The Gathering will be celebrating this milestone; 20 years and their latest release, starting off with a Dutch tour this fall, then touring the rest of Europe in January/February 2010 and heading for South America for the fifth time to do several shows in April.
